Senator Anna M. Caballero Announces Grant Award from California Distressed Hospital Loan Program to Madera Community Hospital and Hazel Hawkins Memorial




Senate District 14/Assembly District 27 have jointly worked to provide $20 million in much needed funding to support the recovery and restoration of the Planada community. In addition, their joint collaboration with UC Merced and Merced College has resulted in $100 million in full funding for an innovative student housing project which will provide the opportunity for students to live on campus to continue their higher education at Merced College and UC Merced.




"It's an emergency relief fund for hospitals that are at risk of filing for bankruptcy or that have already filed,” says 14TH District State Senator, Anna Caballero (D-Merced).

Caballero says some of the money could potentially be used to reopen Madera Community Hospital, which closed in January after filing for bankruptcy in late 2022.




Senator Anna M. Caballero (D-Merced) named Tamara Cobb Woman of the Year 2023 for Senate District 14, and presented her with a Resolution at the State Capitol in Sacramento on March 20.




California’s water supply threat is certainly not new. The state has been grappling with water scarcity for decades, with frequent droughts causing significant harm to agriculture, wildlife, tourism and communities in all corners of the state.




Senate Pro Tem Toni Atkins, a San Diego Democrat, called the two-bill package “a monumental legislative agreement, and one of the most significant efforts to streamline and amplify housing production in decades.”
