Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 831 and it would authorize the State to work with the Federal Government to establish a program to allow undocumented agricultural workers in California to work legally.




Senate Bill (SB) 14 — legislation that makes trafficking of a minor for purposes of a commercial sex act a serious felony — is now the law in California. Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the bill on Sept. 25 accompanied by First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, State Sen. Shannon Grove (R-Bakersfield), who authored the bill, State Sen. Anna Caballero (D-Merced), as well as survivors and advocates.

Senate District 14/Assembly District 27 have jointly worked to provide $20 million in much needed funding to support the recovery and restoration of the Planada community. In addition, their joint collaboration with UC Merced and Merced College has resulted in $100 million in full funding for an innovative student housing project which will provide the opportunity for students to live on campus to continue their higher education at Merced College and UC Merced.




"It's an emergency relief fund for hospitals that are at risk of filing for bankruptcy or that have already filed,” says 14TH District State Senator, Anna Caballero (D-Merced).

Caballero says some of the money could potentially be used to reopen Madera Community Hospital, which closed in January after filing for bankruptcy in late 2022.
