Governor Newsom Signs SB 1420, Expediting Non-Fossil Fuel Hydrogen Production in California

SB 1420 Ensures California’s Hydrogen Hub (ARCHES) is Maximized and Creates High-Quality Clean Energy Jobs for California Workers

Sacramento, CA – Senator Anna M. Caballero (D-Merced) announced that her bill, SB 1420 Hydrogen, was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, ensuring long-term benefits for California’s workforce and our environment. Senate Bill 1420 ensures California’s ability to produce enough hydrogen that will help achieve our state’s climate change goals. SB 1420 will help The Alliance for Renewable Clean Hydrogen Energy Systems (ARCHES) maximize its federal Hydrogen Hub status by unlocking private sector investment estimated at $10 billion in California. SB 1420 will also create an additional pathway for California to achieve a clean energy economy.

“I would like to express my gratitude to Governor Newsom for his commitment to meet California’s ambitious climate goals. SB1420 enables California to transition on producing a cleaner, locally sourced transportation and energy fuel. This not only decarbonizes the fuel, but eliminates the production of air pollution contaminants,” said Senator Anna M. Caballero (D-Merced). “As we transition to a zero-carbon economy, we must provide quality, comparable employment opportunities and economic development for our state’s workforce. Californians need and want good paying, livable wages. Hydrogen can boost economic growth, lower energy costs, and reduce diesel and jet fuel usage in regions like my district with poor air quality. This bill is critical to the economic and environmental survival of our planet, our people and our communities.”
