Newsletter
Dear Neighbor,
Welcome to my first newsletter as your Senator! I am so honored to serve you. The legislature began our work on January 7th, and I held a community swearing in on January 25th. I met with many of you, from all parts of the district. We talked about water, the environment, agriculture, education, veterans, housing, and community safety. I look forward to meeting many more of you, and invite you to call my district office if you have an issue I can help you with. We are here!
This year I am working to fight poverty in California. I have several bills to reduce child poverty, establish a tax credit for working families with children, and to expand healthcare access in underserved areas.
- I introduced The End Child Poverty Act, a bill which would commit the state to reduce deep child poverty, and eliminate deep poverty. [Bill Here]
- Working families with children need support because of the high cost child care. I authored SB 26, to put money back in the pockets of low- and moderate-income families so they can meet their basic needs. [Bill Here]
- Administrative rules hold back physician assistants (PA’s) in California. I authored SB 697 to modernize the practice of PA’s, which will expand healthcare access to underserved areas. [Bill Here]
For more information on any of my legislation please contact me.
Claudia G. Corchado is the Program Manager for Cultiva La Salud; an obesity prevention initiative. Ms. Corchado built and trained almost 250 grass roots community leaders, primarily non-English speaking residents, through a twelve-month Powerful People curriculum. Through these trainings’ residents learned the power of local, state and federal governments and how their decisions impact their health. She worked with many different communities in the Central Valley to address issues such as safe and clean drinking water at schools, improving community parks, decreasing crime in communities of color, community improvement plans that make public areas more walkable and bikeable, safe routes to school for children, ensuring parents are part of the Local Control Funding Formula process at their child’s school, and she also opens school gymnasiums so hundreds of low income residents have access to safe/organized physical activity opportunities.
Ms. Corchado lives in Dos Palos, and was honored as the 12th District’s Woman of the Year.
