Water is Our Lifeblood

Hello Neighbor,

I was pleased to join Governor Newsom at the San Luis Reservoir this week as he announced his budget proposal to put over $5 Billion dollars from California’s budget surplus toward immediate drought relief. In addition, his proposal is to utilize $1 Billion to provide stability to small water systems to help Californians who are behind or unable to pay their water bills because of the pandemic. I applaud and thank the Governor for his action in declaring a drought emergency and committing resources to improve water quality and delivery.

Our way of managing our most valuable resource needs to change. Every drop of water needs to be used and reused or we will see a return to dust bowl conditions and poverty.

The Central Valley of California has a rural, agricultural economy. Water is our lifeblood. During this critical time in our state’s history, we need  to make fundamental changes to our water system and infrastructure that are going to build the resiliency that will provide  residents with clean drinking water, and that will allow us to continue to  grow the fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables that feed the world.
