Senator Anna M. Caballero to Recognize the Senate District 14 Latino Caucus Scholarship Recipient for 2023

Madera: Senator Anna M. Caballero will recognize Jose Eduardo Rodriguez Vargas, Senate District 14 2023 Latino Caucus Scholarship award recipient. Jose, a graduate of Matilda Torres High School in Madera, was an active member of the Madera Leo Club, Class Council Secretary and a member of his school’s Speech and Debate team. While maintaining a 4.33 GPA, Jose worked as a field laborer. He plans to attend the University of California San Diego where he will study structural engineering.

“Jose is an example of the best and brightest that the Central Valley has to offer. Through diligent work, he has overcome self-doubt and with the encouragement of family, has accomplished his educational goals. I am proud of Jose, and hope that this scholarship award will help him to continue his education.” –Senator Anna M. Caballero, Senate District 14

“When I checked my emails, I could not believe that I had been awarded the CLLCF scholarship for $5,000. I spent half an hour checking the website for any updates, and checking the email that sent the message because it felt so surreal to be recognized among so many amazing Latino students. I remember running to my mom to show her the email. I teared a bit if I am being honest because this scholarship means a number of things to me. First, attending UC San Diego would be more affordable. Secondly, it meant that I am capable and that I do deserve to attend university along with other amazing students. Lastly, it meant that I would be the first to attend University where I will pave the way for my younger siblings. I am so grateful for this opportunity and I plan to make the most of it!” -Jose Eduardo Rodriguez Vargas, 2023 Latino Caucus Scholarship Recipient for Senate District 14
