Sacramento: Senator Anna M. Caballero (D-Merced) released a statement following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organizations, overruling the federal constitutional protections regarding the right to abortion:
Senator Anna M. Caballero will honor the Madera Coalition for Community Justice as the 2022 California Nonprofit of the Year.
SACRAMENTO: Senator Anna M. Caballero (D-Merced) shares legislative update on the status of her bill package.
“California is operating with a historic surplus, and for the first time since the COVID pandemic, our work is not limited due to constraints in place to prevent the spread of the virus.
This year I am working on a number of issues that include housing production, valley fever, and climate change among others and am thankful for the collaborative efforts between my colleagues as we work to bring relief to Californians.” Senator Anna Caballero, Senate District 12.
Senator Anna M. Caballero (D-Merced) announces the 2022 Young Legislators program that will provide an introduction into the workings of government and strives to build a strong foundation for youth who want to get involved in the leadership of their community.
Senator Anna M. Caballero (D-Merced) announces the passage of SB 1449 the Unincorporated Area Annexation Incentive Program out of the Senate Committee on Governance and Finance with unanimous bipartisan support. SB 1449 creates a state matching grant program for cities that are annexing unincorporated areas. This bill will help fund infrastructure costs associated with annexation including sewer connections, sidewalks, storm drains, and streetlights.
SACRAMENTO: Senator Anna M. Caballero (D-Merced) introduced SB 1410 which modifies the vehicle miles traveled (VMT) regulations to limit use to Transit Priority Areas (TPAs). In areas outside of TPAs, the traditional measurement of traffic impacts, Levels of Service, would be used to assess transportation impacts on the environment for projects subject to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review.
SACRAMENTO: Senator Anna M. Caballero (D-Merced) introduced SB1308 which would clarify and strengthen California’s Buy American policy by requiring all California public schools, colleges and universities to purchase agricultural products grown, packaged or processed domestically, unless the price of the foreign product is more than twenty-five percent lower than a domestic product. SB1308 would improve the quality and safety of public school, college and university meal and nutrition programs, protect California jobs, and support California’s agricultural industry.
HURON: Senator Anna M. Caballero (D-Merced) will join Mayor Rey Leon of Huron for a special tree-planting event just ahead of Arbor Day.
Disadvantaged and low-income communities and county unincorporated areas have less canopy cover than other communities due to the cost of tree planting and tree care. These communities struggle to fund and maintain urban forest programs, leading to an inequitable distribution of environmental benefits, as they suffer from greater urban heat island effects and worse air pollution. Last year, Senator Caballero proudly authored SB 347, The Neighborhood Tree Fund, which created a voluntary contribution on the state income tax to help provide a consistent source of funding to CalFire’s Urban and Community Forestry program. Her legislation placed a special focus on small, urbanized communities that struggle with the long-term care and maintenance costs of tree planting programs.
